I filed for bankruptcy in 2012, have discharge paperwork with American Express card listed in paperwork. 2 1/2 years later, I buy a house and the lien was added on the day of closing?? I did not own a house/property at the time of bankruptcy. How are they doing this. It’s been 5 years now from discharge, almost 3 years since I bought this house and I just found out I have a lien while trying to refinance my FHA to conventional mortgage. Contacted Amex, basically told me they didn’t receive any thing but they have magically been off my credit reports since discharged?? They didn’t seem to care, basically wants me to go thru an attorney. I’ve contacted my bankruptcy attorney but he wants a retainer. If my attorney did the filling wrong-should I pay? Or is this a tactic Amex does to get their money back regardless of bankruptcy?? It’s $4,500, so it’s not a lot compared to some credit card debt I’ve seen. Why am I hassled over this? Should I sue (Amex) over this?
I live in Colorado. Thanks up front for any advice!

You're going to want to consult with your attorney. Yes, that means paying a retainer.
