Car won't pass inspection

What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? PA

I was cited by an officer for an expired inspection. He was nice and said he would drop the charges if I went to get inspection and then showed him proof. Now, this car is used for working (hauling, moving items, etc.) and I don't need to drive it, its more for hobbying. I gave it a good look over and its going to be more than the value of the vehicle to fix it so I would rather not go that route (my mechanic is giving me a second opinion today). My question is, if I was cited and the officer is going to drop the charges if I get inspection, what is going to happen if I can't get it inspected because it will fail and I have no intention of driving it again? My best bet is to sell it as is to someone for off road use or scrap it completely.

If you aren't going to get it fixed, pay the fine and move on.

There was no fine or charge indicated on the ticket. So I assume the court will hand something down when I go?

You need to surrender your registration and plates to DMV to establish that you have removed it from the road.

This might satisfy the law.

Sure - but he'll still need to pay the fine most likely. He DID illegally operate it on the road.

Surrendering and removing the registration may suffice as correction, esp if he has estimates of the repair costs relative to the vehicle value.
