What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Nebraska
I received a letter in the mail from a law office in Ohio stating I owe 5k for a debt. It doesn't say what it originally was. It may be a credit card I had when I was younger but even then, I only had a 2k limit. What is the statue of limitations for credit card debt and can the credit card company a collection agency charge interest for that long?
I did read somewhere that I can contact the law office and request documentation of the last date of payment was on that account. Yes? No?

5 years for written contracts. Yes, those cardholder agreements are written contracts.

Yes. The default interest rate is charged on the balance until it's paid.

You could do that even if you didn't read it somewhere.

What you are probably referring to is the "validation" provision of the FDCPA.

To be clear: "last date of payment" is not one of the things that are required to be provided in a debt validation.
