GM is going to be it. Ford is stopping making cars.

Good car? GEO Metro.

No wild technology yet it got 48 mpg and was easy to fix.
Ford isn’t stopping making vehicles. They are stopping making car type vehicles. Their suvs are not ceasing as well as truck line is continuing

And you call a go metro a good car? Holy cow. It was better than a yugo but that’s about the best I can say for it.

I didn't say vehicles though. I said cars.

My point about GEO is partially sarcasm to convey I don't think much of any car manufacturer , but also part true. Cars used to get better milage and we're much much cheaper.

Call me old fashioned I expect consumer products to get better and less expensive over time. Cars are planned obsolescence junk, by design. Two words: timing belt.

Two more words;

Scheduled maintenance

And cars will not get cheaper over time. There are huge amounts of tech in a vehicle now that wasn’t there when your geo was produced. It is even greater if you go further back in time. That tech costs money.

There is also a greater liability than ever before and that costs money (insurance)

Cars do get better mileage than they used to. Cars last longer than they used to as well. It used to be a milestone if a car got 100,000 miles without major repair. I know people that don’t buy cars with less than 100,000 miles on them and often double and sometimes triple that.

Are there crap cars still being produced? Sure but in general quality has improved and that makes cars last longer.

A 'maintenance' procedure that cost 800 to 1200 bucks.

They make their money on planned obsolescence. Which is why the climate controls are now part of a failure prone entertainment system.
I sorry you’ve had such bad luck with cars. It is very different than my experiences.

I love my Fords....but Ford sure designed some front ends on Expeditions, Navigators , Bronco and F150 to rust out in a big hurry and saved a few pennies to use a grade of steel in brake lines which rust out about as quickly ...at least as a stockholder they give me a small incentive to buy a Ford .....oh well, I can ride SEPTA and smile about American rail reliability.
