What is the name of your state? Illinois
I had collected documents towards achieving the stated goal of a group. The group is not legally registered nor recognized though it is under fiscal sponsorship of another group for the sole purpose of using their nonprofit status. There are no written rules, no bylaws, no agreements, no fully formed board, just me as president, a treasurer, and floater position. I personally did all the work but have now resigned over financial mismanagement and fundamental direction concerns. I’m worried that my leaving will ultimately cause the group to fall apart and cause the documents to be lost. Do I legally have to turn them over? They are signed petition forms, letter of support for the project, documents created performing a required task (not required by the group but by the application recipient), graphics I designed, mostly items needed to apply for the stated goal which has not occurred yet. If the group falls apart, I could pick up the project with new members.
