Yes, HighwayMan I've been clean (no infractions) since that incident (81 on 65) and the prosecutor reduced it to a parking infraction. I wanted to fight it more because the officer was a real prick when he stopped me ( I'm always polite and know better than give an attitude). Having had a very ticket filled youth (16 to 22ish- I'm 50) I know the drill...Pull over, turn everything off, hands on the wheel, radio off, NEVER GIVE OFFICER ATTITUDE, etc. but he must've gotten off on the wrong side of the bed or something. Lots of great info guys, thank you again!!

On another note, any advice for me when dealing with officers that are "prickly" even though I'm polite and not a smart ass? For the most part whenever stopped (again in my younger days) I've had great experiences with officers and some of them even let me off without as much as a warning slip and I truly believe they did it partly because I treated them properly and with respect but w/ this ticket and one other time they were just PRICKS because "they could" and I would love to know how to show them that there is no need for that. Again, MUCH appreciated for all the great information!

Sorry, I meant he didn't get me w/ a Radar/Laser gun ,I do know the difference. I know this because I have a Passport 9500ci (handles all bands and laser) installed on my car and nothing went off. I know they are able to "guesstimate" from looking how fast a person is going but no-one is that good that their opinion would be better than a Radar/Laser gun.

So basically, there isn't anything i can do?!

If he pointed the laser at your license plate to get a reading, you'd need to have your Passport's sensor right on your license plate to detect his laser. That's my understanding of it, anyway. You probably have it on your windshield or dashboard and the cop won't be aiming there. And even then he'd have a reading by the time the detector went off. Read about it here:

You'd need to paint your car in laser-absorbing paint, apply Veil to your license plate, get a laser jammer, a laser detector (with sensors linked to the detector on various spots of your car, like license plates, headlights, rear lights, bumpers, etc...), and a radar detector (radar jammers are illegal, but laser jammers are legal in most states). And then you might buy yourself some time to slow down if you're fortunate. Not worth it, IMO. Where I drive, traffic blows so it's almost impossible to speed anyway except in a few streets irrationally marked 25 when you can easily go 40.

Yes, I did some research regarding types or technology the police use for speed enforcement before buying my radar detector and found that the Escort Passport 9500ci detector was the best way to protect myself (at the time of purchase) against radar/Laser guns due to it's use of shifters both in front and rear of the car. This unit was professionally installed (not a dash unit) and I have the shifters by both plates on the car. It's a solid system that has more than paid for itself since I had it installed. From my understanding officers will use the reflective surfaces (headlights, license plates,etc.) to get a lock and multiple times I've been tagged and warned when being clocked by lasers. That's why I agree w/ what was mentioned above regarding pacing since none of my warnings were triggered. The unit is also able to use updated GPS speed trap and camera data to provide notifications when approaching know previously marked locations (crowdsourcing). I also have the unit checked every year to make sure it's still operating as it should. Having used the unit now for over 5 years and having upgraded the original shifters that came with the unit with the newer laser shifter pro model I have complete confidence that it's able to handle any currently deployed technology in the tri-state area for speed enforcement so I agree with you that all the other stuff you mentioned is not needed and is not worth the trouble.

By the time the beam is detected it's too late. Lidar detectors seem to be pointless.

Yes, he'd need to combine the LIDAR detector with laser-absorbing paint and a laser jammer. Then he has a chance. We're talking potentially hundreds of dollars in gear, and that's if he does everything himself.
