How in the world would emancipation help him get a better job?My 17 year old son has lived with his father who has custody for 4 years. He kicked my son out of the house 7 months ago and my son has been living on his own working since he was 16. He wants to get emancipated for a better job. Can I help with that even though I don't have custody?
Colorado does not have an emancipation statute under which minors may petition a court for legal autonomy which would release them from the control and authority of their parents. No independent cause of action exists in Colorado for the emancipation of minors. The issue of emancipation is fact-specific to the situation and applicable law. Issues relating to emancipation may be addressed as part of a separate legal action before the courts such as a dissolution of marriage or child custody case; or directly by the state or local agency providing a service or benefit. Can I help with that
The job he's waiting to get requires him to be emancipated in order for their insurance to cover him.How in the world would emancipation help him get a better job?
I would love to have him live with me....I'm respecting the fact that he has been taking care of himself for 7 months now and I don't want to disrespect my son by making him "go backwards". I don't have a divorce attorney...my ex gained custody from social services, due to my past alcohol issues my son was in foster care.Help? How will you help him with emancipation when he will be emancipated in less than a year? Why don't you just let him live with you?
Have you spoken to your divorce attorney about what's going on?
What sort of insurance? I've never heard of any sort of employer insurance (General Liability, Worker Compensation, or Auto) that would care if the employee was emancipated. The job he's waiting to get requires him to be emancipated in order for their insurance to cover him.
I'm not sure of all the details I just know my son came to me needing help....he has spoken about a job doing concrete and also snow removal...I'm not sure which he's talking about. The details arnt what's important, currently my son is 5 hours away from me so communication isn't the best I'm just trying to be there for my son to help him with whatever he needs if possible. I don't know maybe he is bending the truth about the insurance issue just to get emancipated, maybe notWhat sort of insurance? Missysue, Are you trying to "make up" for your prior bad decisions by helping his with this? Because at his age he should be in his Sr year of high school and making a REAL future for himself. He should not have to support and fend for himself quite yet.I'm not sure of all the details I just know my son came to me needing help....he has spoken about a job doing concrete and also snow removal...I'm not sure which he's talking about. Is your son in school and working part time or has he quit school? Are you paying support to his father for your son?I'm not sure of all the details I just know my son came to me needing help....he has spoken about a job doing concrete and also snow removal...I'm not sure which he's talking about. first to admit that I Havnt been the best parent and yes I've made some huge mistakes and I've paid for them dearly but you and I both know you can't just "make up" for them just like that. I am trying to help with this because he's my son and I love him and just like any parent when your child comes to u with a problem you want to solve it for them. Even if you can't. I want him in high school finishing his senior year of course and I have discussed with him his lack of options without a diploma. And too bad you don't know my son because just as he always does....he made some valid points to support his side( sharing that discussion is irrelevant) and when we were thru I was convinced that he knows fully the end result of his decision. You or others may not agree with this but I know my son better than anyone and I feel this is something I have to let him decide...even if he makes the wrong choice....he will learn from it.Missysue, Are you trying to "make up" for your prior bad decisions by helping his with this? So are you truly acting in his best interest now? Have you made it clear to him he can live with you and finish school?
Fair enough.I'm the
