The truck was turning into a driveway and wouldn't have been able to make the turn from the right lane because of its wide turn radius. I believe it's legal for trucks to do this. What isn't legal is making the turn without checking if the path is clear...
You believe wrong. There are no exemptions in the statute for any vehicles, but especially not ones that are "too big". If the driver couldn't make it in too bad - he would have to find another entrance or approach from the other direction and make a left turn.
This is one of my (many) pet peeves and I have written truck drivers for this often. Unless there were signs or pavement markings that permit the turn from elsewhere, a right turn can ONLY be made from the right lane. If there are no lanes then from a point as close to the right edge of the roadway as possible.
You made an illegal passing maneuver. There's no "control of the lane" nonsense when you're breaking the law to begin with. Now the had a responsibility as well, but the poster wasn't blameless.
There IS a thing called right of way, and the person in the lane ALWAYS has right of way vs the person trying to merge. You're required to make a safe lane change.
