I live in NJ and have called the police twice on my neighbors for trespassing into my yard. Prior to me calling the police I spoke to my neighbor and informed her that her grandkids, nephews were always trespassing in to my property and I want it to stop for various reasons. Both times I called the police I wanted the police to speak to my neighbors and inform them they were trespassing in to my property, but the police never spoke to them. I have CCTV and noticed they we're still trespassing after speaking to them so I sent my neighbor the video of her son trespassing and in result her son came knocking on my door very angry and wanting to argue. I called the police and filed trespassing and harassment charges yesterday. The police knows this particular family very well and don't seem to act against them. Is there anything else I can do since I now fear for my safety!

To add to Xy's questions:
Why are they trespassing in your yard? Getting a base/foot/basketball or just a cut thru?

Get a lawyer to assist you with your civil options.

How old are these trespassers?

How old is the son who visit you angry?
Trespassers are between 18 & 28. The son is about 26 years old I assume. When I filed charges the police informed me that this individual had warrants and was also on probation.

Regarding the lawyer, I don't know where to start. How do I find one that specializes in this type of civil rights?

Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

They cut through my yard and climb on their deck. Even though they have access to a gate they can easily open at the end of their property.

The reason this bothers me so much is because we recently had some items stolen from our yard and a package from our porch. We called the cops and show them the footage and they said they couldn't do anything because they are not admitting to doing it. So we simply asked they would not trespassing anymore or we would continue calling the cops. Which is what we have done.

I don't understand why, if one of the neighbors "had warrants," the police did not arrest him.

You can contact the probation office to report the probationer for trespassing and harassment.

Exactly. I am not sure why the police did not arrest the individual. That is another reason why I am also concerned. Should I follow up with the prosecutors office or district attorney? I am just lost at this point.

You do not need a specialist civil rights attorney.

This forum does not allow members to give referrals - for many good resaons.

FreeAdvice does offer a find a lawyer feature, which you can avail yourself of.

I think people may be thrown by the 'grandkids' when you explain the story. I was imagining pre-teens.
These are legal adults, the parents (or grandparents) are not responsible for them or their actions.

If you have evidence (which video is) that they damaged your property or stole items from it you can also sue them for that.
