What is the name of your state? California
Hello friends,
Today I received an email from my insurance company, regarding a claim, it mentions a claim number, date of loss from 2 weeks ago. But I have not been in an accident, and I have not made any claims whatsoever. I am fine and my car is fine. I don't recall any incident whatsoever in the last 1 year. I was shocked when I received this email which says that an adjuster will contact me. What the heck. What is going on? Tomorrow I will call my adjuster. What should I expect? What should I say to them? Damn I am really freaking out right now. Somebody is doing fraud. How should I defend myself? Has someone experienced such a thing? Has someone here heard such a thing before? Please help!!!!

Well first you need to not overreact to the matter. You need to let the adjuster know that you have not been involved in any accidents nor made any claims, and that you think a mistake has been made. It might not be fraud. It might be something as simple as someone transposed a couple of numbers in a policy number.

Don't panic. Did the email include a link of any sort that requested you enter personal information or login details? If so it was likely a scam.

Contact the insurance company, but don't use any number on the email. Again, because it may be a scam. Goto the website of the carrier and find the number for claims.

I called my agent and she says the name and car that StateFarm has reported to my insurance company, they don't match my name and my car. Looks like a mistake by statefarm.
Thanks guys. I was so scared.

The email was a genuine email from my Insurance Company.

Then contact the insurance company claims number.
He/she already contacted their agent...and their agent verified the error. It is not necessary for the OP to take any further action.

State Farm agents are very actively involved with their customer's issues. My dad was one.

That's all well and good but it isn't the agent that sent the email it was the claims department and the OP was clearly still concerned.

Ok dear friends, so this claim had something to do with my roommate from a year ago. Now I live in a different house. In California, the house that you live in, the names of all the residents show up in the database of the insurance company, and you have to exclude them. So this roommate of mine got into an accident and his insurance company contacted mine. In my policy, he is shown as an excluded driver. My adjuster took my recorded statement in which I said that I don't have anything to do with this guy and his car. And that my policy is only for me and my only car registered in my name, and nobody else. And I told them that I don't even live in that house anymore. So my adjuster said that they will go ahead and reject that claim, and this will not affect my premium. I guess this is one of the problems while living with a bunch of roommates in horribly expensive California.
Damn I was so scared. After a long wait of 3 years, my points finally fell off my record, and now I am considered a good driver, and pay a little money for my insurance. Just the thought of my record getting ruined again, scared the hell out of me. Thank God I am fine.
Thank you friends. Good night.

Thanks for the update....Just a bit of advice. Life will be less stressful for you if you don't get scared till you actually have something to be scared of. :)
