Do the amounts matter? I know that a lease is legally binding. My only uncertainty is around the fact that they call it “prorated” rent, and if that changes anything since I will be in the apartment for the full month. My feeling is they put the amount that I owe for July, and that should be the amount I have to pay - not the full rent which is almost 3x as much.
I said nevermind. I am no longer interested in helping on this thread.

No, I was trying to determine if the difference was approximately the amount that you would have paid for the initial prorated amount you paid for your very first month in the unit, or the amount you didn't pay your first month.

If it was the former, then a clear mistake was made on the lease that would be obvious to anyone, they copied too much from the previous lease. If it was the later, then it would not be as clear of mistake and you might have an argument on your side. I could not tell that from just the difference because that does not tell me the ratios.

If you think that you can be identified by your first name, city and amount of rent you pay, then you are living in paranoid land.

Without reading the entire lease it would be improper to guess as to how the puzzle pieces fit together. You seem to be a bit insistent on paring the details such that you are shaping them to best direct those posting to respond such that it best benefits you. It’s not clear why there would be any mention of prorated rent. You’ve done your best to avoid explaining the issue such that one here might understand what is going on.


My best guess from what you’ve posted is thee is a scriveners error. If true and the true intent of the writing becomes clear upon examination of the lease, the error would not be enforceable.

If you believe you have the landlord by the goody bag, go ahead and squeeze a bit. You may find out your actions allow for the landlord to terminate your lease and evict you.
