Thank you for providing your state name.

Did or does the apartment advertise itself as a safe place to live, emphasizing security features? If so, is that why you chose the apartment above others?
The apartment never advertised specifically externally its security features, however has told us when we asked about about all of the security measures they supposedly have. We chose this apartment because we do not live in the best area however it was newly built and is called a "luxury student apartment." It is over 200 dollars more expensive than other places, and we were told that they had safety measures in place. That is the biggest reason why we are upset, is because they told us that "we have everything we can in place, even armed guards walking around at night, as well as cameras" and yet they were not caught on camera, and not only did these supposed armed guards not see the event, but they apparently did not even see the 35 police officers in the building for 7 hours because they did not even tell the apartment complex what is going on. None of the security measures that we were told in place happened to prevent this from happening or even to help us with dealing with it afterwards. We were left alone in our apartment complex unsure if the 4 armed assailants were still in our building or not, and the leasing managers who live in the building did not even know about this whole event until we told them about it. For an apartment that supposedly spends "$10000 a month" on security features, they sure arent helping.

You can have all the security in the world and still be the victim of crime. Presidents of the US are protected by layers of the best security in the world, yet they still get shot or at least shot at from time to time.

Not always, no.

And no amount of security can keep someone entirely safe.

I don’t see that you have any legal action to pursue against the owner of the property but you perhaps could organize other tenants in the building and approach the landlord/management company/owner with a petition demanding better (or at least working) security measures.

Good luck.
