I recently bought a piece of land, which was disputed land. I didn't know about the complications. The realtor did a great job of covering it up. Now I am at loss, and the government has filed a lawsuit against me. I already lost a lot of money, on top of that I don't want a lawsuit against me too. I want to choose the best attorney for this case. I wonder if I should hire a property lawyer or a criminal defence lawyer. Choosing a lawyer is a difficult part. Do you guys have any suggestions? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I don't see anything here that suggests you need a criminal defense attorney. Why is the government suing you? What is the case about? In general, if you are being sued you want a civil litigation attorney to represent you.

1) What state is this?
2) If someone received money as payment for land that they did not own/have the right to sell, then sue them for the money back. If the realtor has any sort of licensing/credentials, report them to the accrediting agency.
3) We don't know why the government is suing you. Did you alter/develop land that turned out to be public land?
You get a criminal lawyer if you are being charged with something criminal. Are there criminal charges against you?
