What is the name of your state?OR
I have been slandered with a very damaging false accusation by a family member in a comment on Facebook. The person posted my name and called on others to retaliate. Would I have grounds for a defamation lawsuit?

What was said about you and what damages have you suffered as a result?

As a note: Slander is spoken defamation. Libel is it’s written equivalent.

What was the comment? Was it true? "called on others to retaliate"...what do you mean by that statement?

You were not slandered on Facebook.

Slander is spoken defamation.
Libel is written defamation.

If any defamation occurred on Facebook, it was libel, not slander.

The accusation is false
Would you please answer the questions asked in posts #2 and #3? Thanks.
The accusation is completely false. The poster called on readers to 'call me out.' The accusation is so terriible I really don't want to post it. What I would like to do is figure out how to find an attorney to talk to, but I don't even know what kind of attorney to look for, how to look for such an attorney, or basically if a defamation suit in my case is an outlandish thing to even start pursuing.

Here is another link on Oregon’s defamation law:
http://www.open-oregon.com/media-guide/chapter-12-defamation/

In addition to the questions already asked of you that need responses, why has your family member posted derogatory statements about you? What led to the Facebook accusation?

There are attorneys who are “defamation lawyers.” They specialize in defamation law. You could call large law firms in your area or visit your state bar for attorneys practicing in your area (https://www.osbar.org/public/)

Do you have an extra $5,000-$25,000 laying around...money that you'll never get back?

When you call the Oregon Bar ask for several names of attorneys that specialize in defamation.
