Hello,
I have a question about the difference between "the ownership of property rights" and "the ownership of natural resources", in other words, “ownership of and the right to use extraterrestrial resources is distinct from ownership of real property”.

The question arose from reading an article on the law of space: ( http://www.astrosociology.com/Library/PDF/Submissions/To Build Bifrost.pdf (p. 6).
In particular, it talks about the fact that the ownership of space resources is allowed but not the ownership of real estate.

Yes, I know it's for US legislation and that's it.
Indeed, what is the difference in US law between "the ownership of property rights" and "the ownership of natural resources"?

Since you, or anyone else for that matter, are not currently purchasing land on the Moon, Mars or Saturn, your question, and this topic, is hypothetical. We don't do hypotheticals. There are chat/debate forums where you may speculate to your hearts content, but this isn't one of them.

The article appears moot because of the following statement:

Building a transplanetary infrastructure is not something that private enterprise is going to accomplish... ever.
Footnotes are from 2005 and older. The article obviously fails to consider the development of spaceships by private companies, some of which (like Space X and Northrop Grumman) have operational spaceships now.

As to your question:

what is the difference in US law between "the ownership of property rights" and "the ownership of natural resources"?
What do you think the answer is? Seems obvious to me.

State/local governments and the federal government and world governments can regulate space resources, and they do so in a variety of ways. For example, some states will regulate the use of drones in airspace above real estate properties and the federal government regulates air travel.

As an aside, I have a certificate that says I own a star in space. I have posted “no trespassing” signs and so far that seems to have kept all space invaders away.

How do you know? Have you been there lately? Checked with the neighbors? The Vogons might have demolished it to make way for a galactic superhighway.

I am working on the logistics of installing air conditioning before I visit. That place is HOT!

So now wondering was moon base Alpha from space 1999 real estate ( I do have the series )
And I have UFO, the series, on DVD. I grew up watching Gerry and Sylvia Anderson's TV shows (Supercar, Stingray, Thunderbirds, Captain Scarlet) along with Space 1999 and UFO.

The Outerspace Treaty of 1967 provides that celestial bodies belong to all of humankind and cannot be owned by anyone.
That'll change when corporations buy a few politicians and exploit outer space.

Once I can figure out how to cool my star, I sure plan to exploit my little piece of outer space. Offer 5 star hotels, 3 star restaurants, All-Star games, Starbucks ...

I have very few illusions about humans.

Didn't you get the planets included in that deal? I would've insisted.
