Federal contractor maybe misclassified employee. Fed demanding to see personal computer for no reason.

It also might be important to note along the way comments were made how good of a job we were doing, they probably rehire us as contractors until there’s funding to hire us as employees and to make sure and stick around. They are working on hiring a contractor and an employee currently. I...

Hi guys things have moved on and they are no longer asking for our laptops. We didn’t get paid for a week so we reported to our manager here that if we didn’t get paid within the next day or two we could no longer report for work. We were Scheduled for a meeting with the boss here who told us we...

I have nothing to hide guys. I’m just butt hurt they knew and now they’re acting like they didn’t. If anything there’s stuff my boss probably doesn’t want the people who would examine my computer to see.

i understand I’ve only used the computer for work so it’s more of a principle thing. My coworker is actually in the exact same situation. We’re just in shock. He said he’s going to refuse them and they can come get it. I’m thinking about talking to a lawyer. I might give it to them but ask for a...

Guys to be clear my boss here doesn’t like my company anymore for certain reasons. The whole time I’ve been here I finished more work than I was supposed to and I’ve always heard how good a job I’m doing. However now in the last 2 months it’s constant harassment and gas lighting. There was a...

I agree but what makes it inconsistent is that there were three of us and one of us was using a personal laptop because the company didn’t have enough at the time. That was during quarantine. Also there is nothing special about the company laptops other than they are owned by them. So in closing...

Federal contractor maybe misclassified employee. Fed demanding to see personal computer for no reason.

I agree the computer has only been used for work. The reason I got it was the computer given to me by my company was really out dated and it needed new software. After months of trying to contact my company to help resolve the problems at least with the software I decided to get it and buy the...

The party asking for my computer is the federal government here on Guam, the party that gave me the laptop in the states knew I was using my own personal computer. Estate has unpaid taxes and potential lawsuit.

Oops I guess I meant I live on Guam and we follow community property laws similar to California. And yes we pay local tax and we also pay tax to the irs it gets sent in through the mail. The tax debt is from filing joint returns and the only income was from my father though. Thanks for your answer

My father was on a payment plan after he passed they interviewed my mother she doesn’t make enough for them to go after her I guess. She’s just getting by. The $20-30k would be coming from me. Plus whoever wins the suit gets attorneys fees reimbursed so if we lost we can add their fees to that.

Like I said we don’t have a lot. The lawyer we spoke to wants $5k retainer and to be paid hourly. Throwing a possible $20-30k on possible legal fees is a huge deal for us, but It’s not impossible. It’s $3k to do probate so $8k just to start if we do probate.
