I understand that ideas cannot be copyrighted, but stories can be....but I don't really get it. If I copied all the plot in a story but wrote it in my own words, wouldn't that just be taking an "idea"?

If a defendant is innocent until proven guilty, I think it would be almost impossible to successfully sue someone for slander. If you tell people that your classmate used to verbally abuse you (a lie), how can your classmate possibly win a court case if...

Okay, I know this isn't exactly libel/slander/defamation, but I don't know what category this would fit under.
If a person makes up a story on the internet about something they're doing which is illegal(something serious), is that in itself illegal?
If I saved a file of something on my computer using Windows, and it has the "created" date there (and shows that it hasn't been modified since), does that act as sufficient proof of the creation date in legal case?

If I create a lot of original characters and stories, how do I go about getting a copyright on it? If I post the images on the internet, I know technically I would hold the copyright to those images, but am afraid someone could steal them and claim it to be theirs. I'm also thinking of...
In some websites, I see them just copying the exact same news articles...I think the author is usually "associated press" or something. Anyway, is it legal to just copy those onto my own site?
Hi I was just wondering, if someone uploads a video on youtube (not a company, just a person's own video), is it legal to copy that video and upload it on my own name? Or even modify it to my own liking?
I see a lot of this happening on youtube.
Let's say I walked into a store or a wax museum or a themepark, and I took pictures there of things that are not my property, would I be legally allowed to post those pictures on my website?
I want to make a site where I can review movies and in the review I wanted to have movie stills, is this allowed as fair use?
There will be advertisements on my webpage.
