They are employees. But they have individual contracts (not at-will).
They are not independent contractors. They are on payroll, have taxes withheld, receive a W2, etc.
They are bona fide employees earning an annual salary of $1 per year as agreed upon in their signed contracts.
I'm well aware of the difference.
I choose to believe what I have been told by a PA school/municipality solicitor with direct experience with the matter at hand.
I confirmed with the school solicitor that there is no issue with signed a personal contract for $1/year. He has seen it many times with schools and municipalities in PA. He is the solicitor for 6 local districts and several municipalities. He has been practicing law in PA for about 40 years...
OK then, so one CAN be legally put on payroll for $1/year (which BTW he did receive, not $0, from what I was told).
So this brings us back to my original question:
If they put me on payroll for $1/yr, will this prevent me from collecting unemployment?
How did this guy do it for 10 years?

Yes, I understand that if I get called for suitable work I would have to accept it. But I would still do some amount of volunteer work for the school even when working full time elsewhere -- just not as much.
At this point I am just wondering if being on the payroll for $1 would make me...
State: PA
I am about to become unemployed (layoff) and expect that I will need to collect unemployment for some time while seeking full time work in my field.
I am volunteer at a local public school. I am helping the business manager, athletic director, etc.. The district would like for...
Well, made it home without incident. Fun experience..
Still have to drive car about 10 miles in morning to get registered and inspected.
Thanks, Buford. BTW, by definition I am not a criminal as I am presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Vroom!!!!!
After watching Smoky and The Bandit 5 times this week, I decided to take the risk and do the drive without the car being registered.
I got the car this morning and made it out of MA without incident. I’m currently in CT at a friends and staying the night.
Need to make it the rest of the way...
Good thought, but this would not apply. The car would get registered in PA, not MA.
Also, when the car was registered in PA, it would be a new registration, not a tag transfer.
Thanks though.
Not necessarily. That was just one option. Driving with no tag is another option.
And of course the car would be insured.
But it would not be inspected. Could not get it inspected until it was back in PA.
Yep, double and triple checked with various dealers in MA. All had the same answer.
I have 3 options -- the two I presented above, plus paying to have it shipped.
So this brings me back to my original #1 question. What are the penalties (realistic, not max) if I get caught doing option 1. I...
The states involved in my question are MA, CT, NY & PA.
I live in PA.
I am looking to buy a used car from a used car dealer in MA.
The issue is that MA does not offer transit tags or any other type of tag that allows me to legally drive the car back to PA, which is where I would register it...
