Character Defamation Question

What is the name of your state? Indiana
Any advice on what I can do?? Ok, I worked for a large Pizza company (don't know if I should use their name.) Anyway, they hired me as a driver. (I only got training for one day.) The next day I went to my first delivery. As I am unfamilliar with the place (just moved there) I was looking for the house for at least 40 mins. I was so discouraged with the job, I brought the pizzas back, along with the $20 dollars for change, and left it in the heater bag. I discreetley left the building. The next morning I get a call from a manager asking where the money is, saying they will press theft charges if I don't bring it back. (By the way, I wasn't even trained to open the cash register I just wanted to get out of that place.) Anyway someone stole the $20, and they are blaming it on me!!! While I was arguing with the manager about it on the phone, he asked the employee who opened it up if he took it....he of course said no. The owner is gonna call today some time...what should I do?? I'm not paying for something I did not steal. Any help will GREATLY be appeciated.

If the place decides to push it, I'm going to request a lie dector test since police love using them sooo much. Also, I think the manager lied about not having cameras to cover his other employers butt. If we get to take one, of course I know I'll pass and will file character defamation, as this is a huge insult to me. ESPECIALLY considering I'm a Criminal Justice major at Purdue, and this is the first time I've EVER been accused of stealing.

Oh you showed your character alright.. slipped out the back jack!
I would suspect you as well, why didn't you give the money to someone and have them sign something that said they received it? NO! you just dumped the pies and slinked away because you got lost and couldn't face anyone to tell them. AND left the customers to have to complain, left the company liable to probably lose more than the $20.00 to recompense the customers if they had guarantee.
Plus you are a Criminal Justice major!! that just adds insult to injury!
What I suggest you do when the manager calls is APOLOGIZE! and ask them when it is convenient for them for you to drop off the money.

Oh get a LIFE! You can't accuse someone of a serious ACCUSATION as stealing JUST BECAUSE your mad they quit on you. AND by offering the money, you are saying you are guilty, and STILL get in trouble. This company STILL has a thief on their hands, and NO, im not paying for what someone else stealing it. And another thing, thats what happens when you DONT TRAIN your employees, I don't feel sorry for them a bit. By the way, I can quit any damn way I please, that doesn't make me a criminal.

P.S. You basically want me to say, Hi Mr. Manager, heres the money I didn't steal. Sorry, have a good day. --- Not gonna happen

You could have asked for more training. Giving them money would be an apology, you could say you didn't steal it, but you were wrong in just leaving it there.

But then I am not going to talk to you because I am STILL waiting for my Pizza!

I did ask for more training, they are lazy over there. Wouldn't help me with a thing. They didn't even teach how to use the register. And allthough I agree, in hine-sight, it wasn't the best idea to leave it there, but I'm not taking the wrap for stealing it.

The company didn't defame your character. What they are trying to do is get to the bottom of the situation. You didn't handle the quitting part very professionally or responsibly.

When they call back tell them the truth. If they can't figure out where the $20.00 went, then what makes you think you shouldn't be responsible for it? You were the last one in charge of it.

I don't need you telling me the way I quit wasn't professional or responsible, that has nothing to do with the issue. (There is no law against unprofessional quittings.) What I'm saying is, FIRST, I don't believe they don't have any cameras, SECOND, I'm willing to take a lie detector test. In either case, would prove the company that I didn't steal it, and if they went about any action, then yes it would defaming me.

It has a lot to do with it. You were responsible for the money. No one else YOU. If you had done the right thing you would not be in this situation. If the company takes action against you it will be because you were in charge of the 20 bucks.

No, there is ANOTHER issue at hand, and that is THEY have an EMPLOYEE who stole it! It was left at their store, and if they have cameras as I suspect they do, then charges should be brought against HIM not me! And again, not to mention I'll take a lie dector test.

Exactamundo Happy Trails! He took the money in good faith and did not return it in good faith... I wonder what he is going to do in Criminal Justice?

If they have cameras and end up finding out what happened to the money, then great for you. I do believe that you did not take the money. The problem is you were responsible for the money and had you turned it in properly, they wouldn't be looking at you.

Well, I do know that much. That's just my kind of luck though. An employee ended up stealing it...my luck. Anyway, I just want to see justice served, they shouldn't want an employee who steals off of them. And if they do have cameras, and end up taking action (Im pretty sure the manager lied about the cameras to save his friends butt.) then you better bet I'm gonna sue their asses for defamation.

A child of five would understand this. Send someone to fetch a child of five!
