That is quite the generalization there, Wirelessany1. I personally hate good sarcasm.
Ok quincy, please allow me to rephrase my statement. Many of us (not quincy ;)) love good sarcasm.

It isn't hasn't been too often but I can remember at least one occasion where quincy has made me bust up laughing due to his hilariously sarcastic quip. :)

Your edit is appreciated, Wirelessany1.

And, as a note, I try hard not to "bust" people up because I tend to prefer them whole.

I did a cursory review of several Arkansas school handbooks (for elementary, middle and high schools throughout the state) and all of them have "Lost and Found" policies. All are variations on the same theme.
I am SO impressed! The effort you put into research continues to amaze me.

That is what I would like to know? IF students are aware that any item not claimed by the school year end is considered abandoned, then it becomes the property of the school and they can then make it a grab bag for anyone!

IF this is the case, it is not theft.
this is how every school i've attended has deemed the L&F...ONLY, my old school, and wife here, says her school(now attended by brother and sister), does it by SEMESTER...they also do the same with all items left in lockers starting the end of the 1st week of summer school, UNLESS that particular student is enrolled in summer school, and they will continue use of their locker during that time.(she's reading off the school site's FAQ's regarding L&F)

anyways...OP says boy returned shoes to LOST AND FOUND. then the high school kid finds them(apparently in the lost and found), finds out kid had shoes. 14 y/o's mom agreed to pay the original cost for a pair of shoes her son returned in the condition in which he found them(ratty and nasty). instead, 6 MONTHS LATER, the high school kid's parents decided to file theft charges? somethings not right, either with OP's postings, or with the HS kids parents. and if you go by a 6 month time period, this apparently happened during last school year, and if child was 14, he was a middle schooler. how'd a high schooler's shoes end up in a MS L&F?

Ok, let's be real. If that WERE the case (the whole "grab bag" thing), then the school would have stepped right up and said "No, it's our policy that this becomes a grab bag". The school has NOT backed up the kid's story :rolleyes:
and also with this here, why hasn't the school not only backed the story, but not punished the boy for theft also? most schools have policies which cover theft of/on school property. but the child has apparently NOT been punished by the school. and i imagine, at some point, the HS kids parents, or the boy himself, made a complaint to the school?

OR, there's a 3rd thing...14 yr old is in HS now, and HS boy is just an a**hole...it happens...wife hit HS, got her butt beat DOWN the 2nd week, by a junior who recognized her from a dispute that happened when they were in summer school after wife was in 6th grade, junior girl in 8th...:rolleyes::rolleyes:
