TX is the other state that has that loophole in the law ... I recall that there were two or three. Sadly, you will also be legally responsible for the child while he is outside your immediate control.

Thank you all for your advice. I have spoken with the police. In South Carolina, a individual can move out of the home at 17 years of age.
Further proof of why the police are not attorneys.

South Carolina Code of Laws:
SECTION 20-7-30. Definitions.
When used in this chapter and unless otherwise defined or the specific context indicates otherwise:
(1) "Child" means a person under the age of eighteen.

and:
SECTION 20-7-1562. Jurisdiction of Family Court.
The family court has exclusive jurisdiction over all proceedings held pursuant to this subarticle. For purposes of this subarticle jurisdiction may continue until the child becomes eighteen years of age, unless emancipated earlier.

In the state of South Carolina, 17 years old is the legal age one can move out of their home without permission. A lot of people don't know this because it most states it is 18, so that's why there are a lot of wrong answers on this page. This grey area is reaking havic on my life with my 17 year old child because even though they have all these rights, we as parents still have to support them and allow them back into our home if they so wish to move back.
