The whole renting rooms with common area access scenario is very common in college towns. It certainly does kind of hint at students when one place has 5 roommates.
Yes. It sounds like a student rental to me, although I suppose the co-tenants could be single coworkers. For example, it is not unusual for government workers to share a living space with others in their capital city for work and live somewhere else.
