I have changed my W4 to indicate married, filing jointly and marked 1 dependent (myself). My employer is not deducting any federal income tax from my payroll. Did I do something wrong?

Ask your payroll person.

Keep in mind that there is an option on the W-4 for you to specify an amount that you want withheld.

You don't say where you are but if you have a state income tax, you'll want tax withheld for that too.

You are not your own dependent. Still that wouldn't zero your withholding unless you are making very small amounts
