What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? my state is MA, the young girl's state is CT

I am 24 years old from China, studying in MA for my Phd degree, the girl is also from China, she is almost 17 years old. now she is currently studying in a high school in CT, she live with the high school teacher's family. so that family has the responsibility to take care of her.
we knew each other in China, and kept in touch with each other by phone in USA. the girl's mother in China allows us to have relationship. we are not sexually involved.
now, the high school teacher finds out we are dating, she will call the police.
so are we illegal?
thanks
thanks for all you guys's answers, I think I need to add more details to you guys.
my girlfriend she study in a high school in CT, because she is minor, so the school requires she must have a guardian in USA. so the school policy is that the school will assign each international student a guardian. her guardian is the teacher in that high school. but this teacher is very mean! she treats my girls friend very bad! she do not even tell my girlfriend supper is ready.
This weekend, the teacher took her daughter outside for fun, they never offer to take my girlfriend outside just for fun. so my girlfriend has to stay at home. so she call me to call meet her and take her to CVS. I drive to her place, and wait outside the house. but the neighbor saw me. so when my girlfriend gets on my car, the neighbor calls the teacher. Then the teacher calls my girlfriend, asking who she is with. my girlfriend does not want to tell the teacher about me, because in China dating with an adult is legal. so at first, we do not think this is a very serious problem. but the teacher calls my girlfriend again, requiring her to be back home ASAP, and the teacher is threatening my girlfriend that she will call the police! so my girlfriend goes back home, and I leave.
when my girlfriend is back home, she says that she just goes out for a walk. but the teacher mentions the evidence from the neighbor. then the teacher says she will kick my girlfriend out of the high school, and they will call the police to catch me! the teacher tells this incident to the present of the high school, and she says she does not want my girlfriend to live in her house any more. so my girlfriend is living in another teacher's house. but this teacher is forcing my girlfriend to tell my phone number and other information, because they want to contact the police. my girlfriend is too worried about me to tell them anything about me.
a few hours ago, I contacted that teacher myself. I want to resolve this problem. but that teacher does not want to answer my call nor does she want to reply my text messages!
until now, nobody contacts me, and I can not contact my girlfriend, they are still forcing her to tell my information.
I really need you guys's help! I am doing nothing illegal, I get my girlfriend's mother permission to have relationship with her!

When in the U.S., you must abide by U.S. laws. In Massachusetts, the age of consent is now 16.

(Hey, Blue - what school did you go to that assigned homework questions like this? :p :))

The childs US guardian can potentially press charges against an adult they perceive as endangering the child. Do you really want to risk your visa being revoked?

Are you actually "dating" (seeing each other) or just talking online and on the phone? I can't see the police getting involved unless she is sending you nude pictures or you are trying to get her to run away or something else that would endanger her welfare.

Since she is still a minor, it really would be best to wait until she turns 18.

I just noticed that the girl is going to school in Connecticut and comoq3c is in Massachusetts. In case anyone was curious, both Connecticut and Massachusetts have set the age of consent at 16.

comoq3c, your sentence about the high school teacher confuses me a bit.

Has the high school teacher, who is hosting your Chinese friend, met you already? Have you visited with the girl at the host family's home? Have you met with the girl in Connecticut or has she traveled to Massachusetts to see you?

Has the teacher or anyone in the host family already objected to your contact with the the girl? Have they already threatened to call the police?

Or are you just worried that dating her might cause a problem?

you mean the age in CT is 16, so that means my girlfriend is legal to have relationship with me?
the host family is very mean to my girlfriend, they know nothing about me, they do not know my girlfriend is dating with me, they just want to find an excuse to expel my girlfriend out of their house and the school.
because my girlfriend is refusing tell the staff in the high school anything information about me, and she lies to the host family, the host family says they will expel my girlfriend out of the school on monday!
I really need help,
thanks

The age of consent, meaning the age at which you will not be thrown in jail for having a sexual relationship with her, may be 16. However, the age of majority, meaning the age at which she is no longer responsible for following her legal guardians' rules, is 18.

If her guardians say no, then it's no.

her guardian does not care if she has boyfriend or not! the host family just dislike my girlfriend, they want to find an excuse to expel her!
by the way, because her mother allows us to have relationship, so let's assume, if the guardian in USA says no to our relationship, but her mother says yes. which one should the police follow?
thanks

Okay, I have to ask, what PhD program are you involved in? Your writing skills here don't seem to indicate that level of learning.

As for the rest of it, your opinion of her host guardian are, legally, irrelevant. As a minor her guardian (the teacher) has the final say in what happens. And if they really wanted to kick her out of the house and the school, it would not be all that difficult. And, if expelled, she will likely have her visa revoked and be sent home.

I will wager that you are getting this information solely from the 17 year old girl, correct? Have you ever met her in person? Have you ever met the family? It could very well be that everything you are being told is a lie. It wouldn't be the first time that someone has <gasp> lied on the internet about who they really are!
