Their clients hire them to collect money and they don't give any more of a rat's patoot if its SOL or not.
It's rat's ass dear. And if this poster had presented all of the facts in her initial post, she would have gotten the same response from IAAL without all of the game playing.

This is still another case of spoonfeeding those who try to help tidbits of facts. She gets what she deserves.

actually, my credit has been perfect...i get excellent rates and never have any problems. i checked my credit report after ladynred's advice and the debt in question is officially listed as a "charge-off" with the last date of activity being 11/98. maybe it's still on my x's credit and as a last resort this agency is trying to harass me for any payment they can get?

and to address one of the other issues, even though it was in my name, this credit card was used by my x behind my back for cash advances and to purchase cars and who knows what else for his girlfriend - so i morally don't feel liable for the debt. i just don't want to be threatened into thinking i have to pay it without an actual legal summons - i'd rather have a court tell me to pay than some agency over the phone. so i guess i'll just wait it out for an official summons or whatever and hope that the charge off withstands.

THANK YOU to all you who've helped me sort through some of this.

to everyone who thinks i'm a frikkin idiot with a "broom up my a$$" i feel sorry for you to have to come one these advice forums and rip people apart.

Indidual Responsibility

Check yourself, now Ladynred. Contact euqifax, trans union, and/or experian and you will find out that the WORST credit ratings arise from UNPAID delquiquent accts, and derrogatory public records, suits, bankruptcies, judgmnents and liens. I'm certain with the debtor mentality you propose here- your credit is immaculate, right? A consumer who honors their contracts will not pay nearly the price than the one who breaks them. Now if someoneone mistakely follows your advice they will most definatley end up with a credit score that is worth as much. Its too bad, that you are obviously in the 'have nots' because people who have good/excellent credit have figured out that in the "real world"- as if there is any other- your word / character is all that you truly own. I pity you. Attack me as you will, those who want to be able to live thier life without constantly battling someone or hiding from someone will see that you have a 'loser mentality'. With every 'right' you have a responsibilty; in the real world, you don't get something for nothing.
