Talk to your lawyer and tell her that I (an old crotchety Air Force Colonel -- and a former appellate defense lawyer) said that she should try to negotiate for you to go home while they sort this stuff out. This would most likely be done with the authorities at Ft. Bliss.

Let the military's own failure to figure WTF is going on work against itself.

I didn't know staying home was even an option. My lawyer has pretty much said that I have to return to my unit before anything can even be started on getting me outprocessed.

What exactly can they work out? Can they start my discharge without me being there? Basically USADEP is screaming at me to go to fort bliss and won't take any thing else. They even straight out said that we don't know if they will take you there but if they don't then they will find out where you go and fly you to wherever.

Since I'm driving myself, thats beyond stupid. I feel like I'm getting the run around because no one wants to deal with it.

However I don't think my lawyer will even try to get them to let me stay home though....she seems pretty adamant about me going to Fort Bliss as well. She's asked them several times on several occasions for an alternate choice for me and usadep is hearing none of it.

Is there a way I can get usadep to change their mind or listen?

My biggest fear is that I'm going to go to fort bliss and sit there for 2-6 months in some replacement/support barracks while they try to find out what to do with me. And whenever they do finally decide what to do, spending all the extra time to get discharged, and thats not even counting if they decide to give me jail time.

A year in elpaso does not sound fun :p

Thought I'd give an update.

I've been here at fort bliss since May 15th. I'm not restricted to base, and I was placed into my old unit. I've been doing normal duty things so far**************.PT, Motor Pool, ect. ect.

Supposedly I am going to get a Summary CM and go to jail in the middle of june for 30 days, and then process out of the military.

Whether that will happen or not**************.who knows.

I was luckier than Blastclip though.....as they re-issued me uniforms so I did not have to pay out of pocket. For the most part (though I acredit this to being in HHB/Headquarters platoon) people don't overly care. I haven't ran into many rude people....and more people are just interested in why the hell I ever even came back.

I'll try to post again once I know exactly whats going to happen.

Leadership

We need a new policy. SECDEF Rumie needs to start going after these failures of leadership. If these were my troops they'd be equal parts too motivated and scared to go AWOL. We'd have these little nasty problems solved before they got to these levels. These A-Wally's need my left boot and their COC needs my right. thats why I have two. The failure is two ways. Sure you have your sh1tbirds that will fly. ...but before they fly, leadership should have recognized it, tried to motivate it, fix it, or otherwise destroy it and document it. Then when one flies the coo-coo nest, we know we did all/what we could do**************and it was the bag o' poop him/herself. and then good ridance...but time and time again I see good kids ruining their lives over complex issues that have solutions. My two cents. Good Luck to all.
