upsetinohio,
You certainly have a reason to be upset. The whole thing is bs. You can't even be responsible and not drive home. It's not right. You weren't hurting anyone by sitting there and waiting for sobriety. Not that it matters much, but you did the right thing by not driving, no matter what anyone says. Welcome to the club of over 1.5 million new criminals in the US every year!

The "right" thing would have been not to have had alcohol and had driven at all.

When you drink, get a lift. Or, better yet, when you drive - don't drink!

Why doesn't the government outlaw bars? I bet that would save a LOT of lives. What do you think?
Or at least they could make a law where bartenders can only legally serve you like 3 drinks or 1 drink per hour or something?

Ask the government.

Possibly ... but getting rid of cars and making us walk or ride horses might be better.

Sure ... everyone can punch a card when they go into a bar and the bartender can timestamp it with each drink. Maybe ya got something here!

I guess the sheer simplicity of not drinking alcohol and then driving just eludes some people.

Why do some bar customers feel the need to HAVE to drive after drinking?? That's a choice and not a requirement.
If you are so addicted to alcohol, how about downing a few bottles sitting in your own shack, and leave the car alone?

It just seems to me that since we already know that alcohol impairs judgement, that the government should better regulate the problem instead of just criminalizing everyone.
You have to admit that there are other ways to combat this, it just might cost the government money, god forbid.

You figure at the rate of 1.6 million DUI's a year, and we'll be VERY conservative and say the government makes $400 off of each one, they stand to make a hell of a lot of money by sticking with the current system that hasn't changed anything in about 12 or 13 years.
I'm thinking $640,000,000 would make a big difference, even being so conservative.

It can't be about the money, though, because we all know how much the government cares about each and every life in this country, look at Vietnam. :(
