What is the name of your state? Texas
My daughter was arrested in Texas at the airport for having brass knuckles in her purse, a Class 3 felony. She was let out on bond and her trial date is 3-17-05. She lives in Arizona and wants to change the court date. How does she do this and what are the chances that the charges will stick? (Carrying a concealed weapon.) The officers said the charge will most likely be dropped. She did not know it was a crime to have brass knuckles as apparently in Arizona it is not against the law to have them.

she would need to contact the court where her hearing is set and ask about changing the court date. does she have an attorney?

who knows if the charges will be dropped. since 9/11, being caught with weapons at an airport is serious business. why was she traveling with brass knuckles?

My response:

You do realize, don't you, that you reared an idiot - - right?

Prohibited Weapons,
Contraband and Potential Weapons

Arizona Revised Statutes §13-2501 - Describes contraband as:

Dangerous Instruments, dangerous Drugs (speed, LSD, etc.), Deadly Weapons, Explosives, Narcotic Drugs (heroin, cocaine, etc.), Obscene Materials, Marijuana

The following is a list of items that could be considered as potential weapons and will be prohibited at all hearings. The list includes but is not limited to:

Ammunition, Ammunition Components (primers, percussion caps, smokeless powder, black powder used for hand loading), Baseball Bats, Batons, Bicycle Chains, Black Jacks, Brass knuckles, Bullets, Bullet Clips, Clubs, Cork Screws, Crochet Hooks, Darts, Facsimiles of Weapons, Gun Lighters, Hammers, handcuffs, hatchets, Hors Shoes, Ice Picks, Knitting Needles, Letter Openers, Lock Picks, Meat Cleavers, Martial Arts Devices, Multi-Blade Knives, Ninja Pins, Nail Files (4" or longer), Plastic Knuckles/Brass, Safety Pins (large), Scissors, Spikes, Stakes, Syringes, Throwing Stars, Tools, Toy Guns/Weapons.

She was raised by her father, so the apple does not fall too far from the tree I suppose. She works as a stripper and rather than carry a gun for protection she had brass knuckles. I know, I know....but changing the court date is the main concern here. Thank you. (I am obviously not "savvy" on law, rules, regulations and such.) Thanks again for opening my eyes to the brass knuckles thing and the classification of my daughter's upbringing.

MY RESPONSE: That's it. Pass the buck. Take no responsibility. Always try to blame someone, or something, else.

MY RESPONSE: So, you not only gave birth to an idiot, but she's also a "skank"! Way to go, Mom!

Thanks again for opening my eyes to the brass knuckles thing and the classification of my daughter's upbringing.

MY RESPONSE: You're welcome.

Based solely on your post, it is VERY likely that the charges will 'stick'. Here is a link to the appropriate statute in Texas:
http://www.capitol.state.tx.us/statutes/docs/PE/content/htm/pe.010.00.000046.00.htm

The officers said the charge will most likely be dropped.
I really don't see any reason why.

Well! Thanks to those who answered my question without prejudice. Oh, did I mention her age? Oh well.

Most 'decent' parents that I know (and certainly more so with 'Mom'), would find that as a point of embarrassment.... and not a source of pride.

JETX, I've had people brag to me about how great their kid was doing in the pen!

I can see the conversation now......

Mother #1: "My daughter is a pediatric surgeon, specializing in saving lives of new borns."
Mother #2: "Wow!! Incredible. My daughter is a physicist, working on quantum string theory of time relativity."
Mother #3: "I am very pleased for both of you.... however, your daughters hold nothing to mine. She is a stripper, giving $5.00 lap dances to lawyers, doctors, judges, carpenters, drug-addicts, drunks and even senators!!".

I really doubt that any self-respecting carpenter would hang around with such scalawags!

Wow! Of course I am not proud of her stripping. Do you people have nothing better to do? I am so glad I have provided so much fun for you. The fact that she felt she needed protection was my point, and the money from her "job" is paying for her college education. But forget it, have fun I will not be back...until December of course. Ha Ha!
