I guess I don't consider another parent that has been to family court on enough occassions to learn the law the expertise that I was talking about. Not to say that I don't value other parents sharing their experience, but that doesn't make it law. Lawyers, legal aids, law students, paralegals -- they sometimes have a different, more objective view. To slam another parent based on your personal experience though is not expertise.
And, of course, NOBODY HERE is an ATTORNEY, practicing in FAMILY COURT! ;)

And, of course, NOBODY HERE works in courts in other capacities.

And, of course, NOBODY HERE works in mediation or parenting classes or anything else.

You just go your merry way, babe. We don't need you: you need us. :p

Prune: How do you figure that makes me look worse? The fact that he makes choices that that then leave me in a position to have to make exceptions to our decree, that makes me look bad?
Oooh! "PRUNE!" So clever! So unexpected! :p

Hmmm...why would YOU care what *I* have to say on the topic? I'm just a stupid inexperienced PRUNE!!

:p

Ohiogal is a site verified attorney. The majority of her cases are in Family Law. Most of the non-attorneys that post here have extensive successful experiences in battling custody cases. They have represented themselves pro se in court...That means they have to have the same knowledge as an attorney would...they don't get a 'do over' if they screw up.

I DO have an attorney -- a very good attorney at that. I was simply trying to get some other perspectives. To just say that I am wrong and he is right because he is "the parent" -- well I am the parent as well. His parental rights do not trump mine and mine do not trump his. The flip side of this is that *I* would not take my children to Trinidad for my work, vacation, or anything else. There are many things that I let him do with the children that I do not agree with because he is their parent and differences in style do not make things right or wrong. However, when safety and the children's best interest come into play then I am prepared to speak up for them.

On another note, this is a difference of opinion between the adults. The children are not even aware of the issue or the disagreement as I strongly do not believe in involving the children in adult issues. If at the end of the day the court tells me that I have to let them go, they will go not knowing anything other than I will miss them and see them when they return. Atleast not from my perspective. If he chooses to share with them that he had to go to court for permission to be granted, that is his poor judgement.

Balh blah blah..

No more advice for you. Insulting people that are volunteering their time and CONSIDERABLE legal knowledge is a big no no here...Bye.

That is your opinion. If the judge sides with him, atleast I can rest at night knowing that I did what I thought was in their best interest. If something were to happen, no one will be able to ask me "why didn't you**************". You can call me a control freak or whatever you want, at the end of the day I am just a mom that loves her children and wants them to be safe and happy. I am surprised that I am being bashed so for being concerned.

I do my best, babe! :D

Dang, and I forgot stay-at-home moms and dads, and schoolteachers, and executives, and a whole lot of other types of professionals, all of whom were smart enough to learn how to rep themselves pro se! :);)

I wasn't slamming anyone. I gave you an answer. Can't help that you don't like it. Most likely the children will be allowed to go see dad. END OF STORY.

OG and I are going to be very suprised at that information. I think my paycheck says something different... and this room I'm sitting in looks an awful lot like a courtroom and that man sitting to the left of me with the black robe on looks frightfully like a judge...

but maybe I'm in the twilight zone or something. Can someone be caught in the Twilight Zone for all these years?
