What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? CA
My employer wants to outsource employment verification to Equifax. To do this the company will send Equifax a file every week that includes pay rate, regular wages, overtime, vacation and bonus pay along with year to date information.

Do I have the right to opt out of the sharing of my wage information to a 3rd party?

If you mean, can you opt-out of having the employer send your wage information to a third party and still keep your job; no, you can't.

Your wages are not confidential under the law.

A hacker could do a great deal of damage with information from an employment file. Its all there. Everything needed for major identity theft all in one location.

Equifax already has that info.

It's everywhere else, too. The risk is there no matter what you do.

Hackers can do a great deal of damage with all sorts of information. And they have.

This does not mean that private and personal financial and medical data should no longer be collected and stored. It just means that those who are charged with collecting and storing the information should have as many safeguards in place as possible that can work to thwart hackers. But it is evident that nothing is really safe from hackers.
