I certainly wont be going to my father-in-law for anything. I am only concerned with his daughter saying that she wants the money back that she spent while we were married.
She can not demand any of that money back. (well, she can demand it, but you don't have to give it back).

The point everyone else is making is that when you came here, someone probably signed an agreement that they would support you if you were unable to support yourself. Now, if you're able to support yourself, no one has to pay. But if you are NOT able to support yourself, they are obligated to do it until you can (assuming they did sign the agreement).

Thanks. I will be able to support myself. A friend of mine is going to let me and the kids stay at their house. Me and my son will have to share a room, but I can definitely afford to live there. I will not be asking anyone for a hand out.

That may be - and it is commendable.

The point that others were making is that if your stbx tries to play hardball, her father could be in for a lot of expense. If your attorney reminds her of that, you may find that the process is a lot smoother.

My wife has now told me that she is going to get a lawyer and file a suit to get back all the money she spent while we were married and living together. Does the earlier advice still stand.

I moved out of state and found a good full-time job and am supporting myself.

Nothing has changed.

Of course.

Only one thing has changed. It is going to cost her a lot more money to make a fool of herself if she uses an attorney.
