You're right, most people coming here are debtors, not creditors. However, the practices of the majority of the collection agencies (including collection law firms) MAKES them nothing more than SCUMBAGS. If you've ever been verbally abused, harrassed, screamed at, threatened with all manner of ILLEGAL actions from a collector - even some CREDITOR collection employees - then you would certainly agree to them being classified as SCUMBAGS. The FDCPA was enacted for a reason - to put the brakes on the abusive and deceptive collection industry. If you don't engage in any of those kinds of practices, then the moniker in question doesn't apply to you .

I did my whole filing off of the website above. I also studied up on each form, how to fill it out (a google will tell you) and was successful. My filing was complete the first time around. Just make sure you know which schedules you'll need.

Angilix, I apologize for interfering in your exchanges with Ladynred. I will not do so again. I just needed to make the point that just as surely as there are unscrupulous creditors, there are unscrupulous debtors. There is no shortage of "scumbags" on either side. But I don't consider you one of them. In fact, I wish you the best as you work through your difficulties.

Actually, the law doesn't specify calendar vs. working, which, to me, means calendar days. Call the court clerk and ask before you miss the deadline.

FWIW: when I picked up my Ch.7 papers & inquired, the clerk told me it was 15 calendar days.... but I'm in CA so it may differ for you.
