What is the name of your state? Maryland

What is the name of your state? Maryland

I wasn't sure where to post this - it's not totally OT, but here goes:

I was laid off from my employment in Feb. of this year. I had two remaining checks that were to be cashed, but for some reason, this had been put off for a short time. They are dated 12/27/02 and 02/21/03. They are now voided by age (past 6 months)

Then, I found out that the business had been sold to a new owner at some point in time. The checking account for employee paychecks was closed and I was not informed. I do not know the date it was closed, however if it had been closed prior to the voiding by age of the checks, would I still be entitled to the money now (because the account closed and I could access the money anyways)? I have been trying to contact the previous and current owner, but in the past 3 weeks I have heard no word.

Also, since the place was sold - if I am entitled to the money - who owes me?

I'm going to cross post this to see if I get a response somewhere. I'm very anxious just because nobody has bothered to respond to my two requests for information.

Also, where can I go to find out about the selling of businesses for Maryland? Are there public records somewhere?

Thanks!

And what is the reason you put of cashing these checks till they were over six months old? You MAY have shot yourself in the foot by doing that.

OH since YOU said you were cross posting, I guess it is o-kay.

Is that anything like cross dressing?

and I am experiencing hallucinogenic typing episodes, please excuse me.

WHY did you wait so long to try to cash checks, I am sure there is nothing much you can do now.

But of course it was O-KAY. I said so :p

But in all seriousness - I suppose I am no longer entitled to the money. Oh well. What should I have done had the checks not been voided by age and the owner closed the account prior to their void date?

As far as the reason - I usually do not wait to cash checks, but when I recieved it in the mail I had already undergone numerous events (ie: my apartment flooded and I was in a car accident.) I was also preparing for my wedding and honeymoon, only a couple of weeks away. Excuses excuses, I know.. Somehow it just got put off and put to the side until too late. It really is unfortunate.

What you should have done is cashed the checks when you first received them.

This site, and most others that I am aware of, requests (if not requires) that people NOT post more than once. It splits the answers and means that not everyone has access to all the information/answers.
