What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Pa

Can the amount of child support be raised if the CP quits their job and decides to go to school?

not usually- especially if the ncp fights it and requests that cp be inputted at their previous income....

actually, cs could go down. If child care is computed into the equation. The NCP does not have to pay child care expenses for the other party to go to school, only work related child care expenses. Unless otherwise agreed.

Actually not true. Child care expenses cover educational and work related expenses.

But could go down based on the amount of childcare needed...many full time students do not spend 40 hours a week in school.
In Maryland they won't pay child care at ALL if you are in school. It says on the cs form for 'work related expenses only'.

In PA they will pay if the CP is going to school in an effort to "create better job opportunities for themselves". It is pro-rated according to their class schedule.

Although most people going to school part time, would probably work a part time job on the days they are off.

While I agree with everyone else, it is possible however that the child support could increase if the ncp's income has increased over time, the cp's hasn't or hasn't increased as much, and the cp is imputed with the income they were earning prior to going to school.

In other words, the CS could go up because the CS would have gone up whether the cp was working or not.
