Can a 16 year old girl marry at a 19 year old guy with parental consent in the state of Illinois?

Also can a 16 year old girl from Indiana marry a 19 year old from Illinois with parental consent? I know the Indiana law says both must be 17 but in Illinois it's 16 so I'm just confused on that one... if they petitioned the court for the marriage license and got married in Illinois would it be valid in Indiana?

Please refrain from posting immature and rude comments. Thank you.

I'm wondering what the hell the parents of the 16 year old are thinking, but okay.

If the marriage is legal in one state, the other states will - generally - recognize the marriage (although same-sex marriage is the exception to this general rule).

Of course, it's not impossible that the state of Illinois will refuse to issue a license to an out of state resident who cannot marry legally in her own state - some states don't like to help out of state residents contravene other state's laws.

There are a whole host of issues.

For example, age of consent in IL is 17 with no 'close in age' exception. So if the couple is having sex now, the guy is committing a crime. In some states, marriage is only a partial defense against statutory rape charges (I haven't checked for IL).

Then there's the residency issues. Parental consent issues. Emancipation issues. A whole host of issues.

The parents need to have their head examined. Other than that, I'm staying out of it.

Some of you are saying it's possible but others are not. To clear things up the 16 and 19 year old are NOT having sex. They just need to know if they can marry in Illinois. Thank you for all the replies!

Then why get married, if not having sex?

Personal reasons I would rather not discuss on here. Sorry. But I guess that leads me to another question. By marrying would the couple be able to have sex legally? I really don't know anything about these laws and can't find much online about them.

Yes, if they are legally allowed to marry sex would be legal as well.

I love how people just jump to the conclusion that they are immature, foolish, stupid etc. because they are young and want to get married. No I'm not one of the teens in this couple but I don't see them as any of that. I would like to see them wait but it's their lives.

And I am DISGUSTED by people who think otherwise. We're not talking about a young-adult. We're talking about a CHILD.

Have you checked for their states?

It doesn't make any sense to me (as in, why do they let people get married if they're not allowed to have sex), but in some states, marriage is only a PARTIAL defense against statutory rape charges. That is, it can be a defense against SOME 'sex with a minor' charges, but not all. Just to forestall Ld's demand for references which she never provides herself:
http://aspe.hhs.gov/hsp/08/sr/statelaws/summary.shtml
Depending on the state, defendants may be exempt from prosecution if they are married to the victim. In some states, marriage is a defense to all of the crimes listed (e.g., Alaska, District of Columbia, West Virginia); other states exclude some of the more aggravated offenses from this exemption (e.g., Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi).[23] In a few states, the criminal statutes identify age limits for the marriage exemptions.
I have no interest in checking for OP's state because I have no desire to facilitate their actions, but I don't think your blanket statement is always true (as bizarre as it seems).

If you aren't going to answer the posted question please don't post at all. I'm not here to argue with people about children and statutory rape and immaturity I'm just here to see if them marrying in Illinois is possible. Thanks.
