It absolutely is necessary. Most, if not all school districts require a Monday-Friday school schedule. His father lives 3 hours away, so splitting the visitation and school schedule won't work in this case. One parent handles the Mon-Fri while the other gets weekends. I've had him enrolled in pre-school for 2 years and have assumed the school schedule responsibility. I enrolled him in Kindergarten months ago and just a month before school starts, his father, un-willing to discuss face to face a reasonable new custody and visitation agreement, wants to wait out a court date scheduled for October. See what I'm saying? The school I enrolled him in has now wait-listed him since he can't attend regularly until we see the judge in October.

Please curb the commentary on my attitude regarding the situation. It is indeed a serious one. Thanks.

It seems like you want the child during the week and for him to have EOW weekend visitation to be the "reasonable" thing' it is also" reasonable for him to be the primary residential; parent and you have the weekend visitation. How are you proposing dad gets his time? You can let dad be the CP and the child go to school in his area. Dads are an important to children as mothers; I know many men who are the better, more involved parent.

The schedule has worked for the last 2 years. What is different now? If he is waitlisted, it appears he is in either in private or charter school. The solution is to enroll the child in a school 1/2 way from each parent so the child can continue the 50/50 now in effect. So you both spend your lives on the read - until one of gives in. You could also choose to move closer to dad.

And YOUR attitude is a problem so the commentary is warranted.

Agreed

The child will be attending school.

That makes it a 45-60 minute drive in the morning, and a minimum of a 1.5 hour drive in the evening. I don't see that as appropriate for a young child. Doing that is simply using the child as a pawn.
You could also choose to move closer to dad.
Yep, another good suggestion.

Yep

PS: I've made the drive from the northern part of LA County to Riverside County in the afternoons - not fun. 2.5 - 3 hours one way has been the norm on Fridays. The kid shouldn't be put in that situation...a change is warranted, no matter who ends up with physical custody.

What is reasonable and in the best interest of the child does not seem to be part of OP's change of custody demands. OP claims Dad is unreasonable; he may be but she is as well - and is the one posting looking for validation that she is the better parent for expecting the other parent to acquiesce to her demands.

Frankly, given what is reported in my area about LA area schools, Riverside County seems like it would be better for the child's education long term.
