The circumstances: Their father abused them many years ago and abandoned them. I know his whereabouts but he has nothing to do with the kids. He doesn't care if I legally change their names.


No, I'm talking about in the future as you indicated.

So you change their names now - what are you anticipating which would necessitate yet another change?

Oh come-on, we all know why she might see changing their names *again*. When her new may-un comes along and she changes her name to match his, the kids will feel estranged from the family when their name is different, especially when she re-spawns. Ugh.
