What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? WA

I was talking, online, with several former students of an online school. All of us have been dissatisfied with our experiences, ranging from just not being taught, their horrible admin (from "recruiters" to "financial aide"), and lists too long to go into here.

Someone brought up the idea of a class action lawsuit against them. Is that an option? If so, since the campus is online, and the students are from various states, how could we accomplish this? Suggestions?

Can you elaborate on why you think you have a valid cause of action?

Federal Court in one of your jurisdictions would be most appropriate. If you believe a claim exists you should consult class action tort firms and have them evaluate it. If they agree with you they will file.

"Several" is insufficient to establish a "class".

If you can convince an attorney that there are hundreds or thousands of plaintiffs, you may be able to get the ball rolling on a class action. These are extremely expensive to litigate, and the only winners are the lawyers.

I recently received a check for $18 as part of a class action settlement.

Also note there is a $5,000,000 amount in controversy requirement for a Class Action under Diversity Jurisdiction.

The average tuition of a for profit college is more than $15,000 a year. Based on the deceptive marketing and recruitment efforts of these institutions I feel as though they are ripe for class litigation. Remember it is not up to the OP to identify every potential plaintiff. Only to establish as a lead plaintiff that there was a pattern and practice that would allow, via discovery, to identify the other potential members of the class.

Class action lawsuits against these for profit universities and technical schools is on the horizon. Count on it.

I agree wholeheartedly that this is a game where the attorneys are the only winners; however, if you're upset as a matter of principle it might be a matter worth shopping.
