Child support ends at the age of 18 or if the child attains the age of 18 and is still enrolled in high school, until the child's graduation from high school.worriedIL said:Also, is it true that a judge would require CS to be paid to the mother until the child finishes college or for up to four years of college? I've never heard such a thing!
Other than that, the order my require a different cutoff however, College is not part of the CS order however, in Illinois, courts can order educational support regardless of the age of the offspring. Support applications can be filed before or after the person reaches the age of majority, and orders can apply to expenses related to college education or other professional training after high school. By law, expenses include room and board, academic fees, tuition, transportation, books, application costs, medical expenses (including insurance), and living expenses during the school year and recesses. Judges must consider the financial resources of the parents and child, as well as the standard of living the child would have enjoyed had the parents not divorced (750 Ill. Comp. Stat. 5/513).
A good review of all questions regarding support can be found here. http://ocse.acf.hhs.gov/ext/irg/sps/report.cfm?State=IL#9
The above was issued by the State Of Illinois in response to the Administration of Children and Families Yearly review process.
Specifically, you need to read (750 ILCS 5/510) (from Ch. 40, par. 510)
