If the contractor hired a sub-contractor to do a job on a house (like, plumbing, electric, etc) if it was new construction and something was found to be faulty by the home owner, who would be liable, the contractor the sub or both?

Unless you hired the sub-contractor yourself, your only contractural relationship is with the Contractor. That is who you address your concerns to.

The contractor, if he/she is responsible for hiring subs, has the legal relationship with the subs and therefore must either satisfy you through them or remedy the problem themselves.

**A: in general, based on the contracts, state statute, case law, common law and warranty laws, both could be liable.
