What is the name of your state? California

I have a friend that needs a copy of his divorce papers. He was divorced in California and his ex wife has the original. He does not know the county they were filed in. How does he get a copy?

Does he know where he lived at the time?

 Good grief. Doesn't your friend know where he lived?

He can look up the county in about 30 seconds of internet searching (try CA, X city, county), then look up the county courthouse info.

Actually it would be where she filed, not necessarily where he lived.

Some counties are more friendly than others. For instance, you can call Butte Co. and ask them to search by name (or search online by name); however, Alameda Co. requires that you send your search request via mail and pay them $5.00 to search, or if you have the case # you can then search online.

Does he even know what County it was filed in?
