I had written earlier that a tenant in New York State need not give any notice to terminate a periodic monthly tenancy. This appears to be the case in NYC only.

I checked the statutes and they state that outside NYC the tenant is required to give thirty days notice.

In 13 years of practice I have never been requested to commence a lawsuit against a tenant because the tenant failed to provide the thirty days notice.
