One thing I must disagree with is telling the other parent to say nothing. IF something happened, her first priority should be to protect her child, not OP (and I am NOT saying he actually did anything).

I have had negative experiences with police officers. And while they made me loath to tell the kids that "the policeman is your friend", I would rather they approach a cop when young and in trouble than a different stranger. As teens? Heck no.
