What is the name of your state?Fl, I received a letter from a collection agency concerning a revolving credit card debt. The debt was incurred in 1988 and has since grown from 1600 dollars to 5000. What legal obligation do I have to pay and what can be done legally on the collection part if I don't? I feel that it was a joint account that my ex should also be responsible. Please advise.

1988 ???? !! Let me guess... CAMCO ???

You have NO legal obligation to pay this rotting corpse of a debt ! The SOL in FL to enforce collection of a debt is FOUR YEARS - not 16 !! If the last time any payment was made on it was over 4 years ago, all you have to do is send them a letter telling them to take a long walk off a short pier. This can not go back on your reports either, and if they have the nerve to report it, SUE THEM !

Here's the letter you need to send the collection agency packing:

The FL statutes you need to complete the letter are on that same web site.

If this is SCAMCO, immediately file a complaint with your state Attorney General, the AG of IL and, most importantly, the FTC.
