What is the name of your state? Tennessee

I have joint medical decisions with my childs mother (divorced) and I want to get my 8 year old vaccinated against covid since I have comorbidities and dont want to catch covid from him. His mother is an anti-vaxxer and won't allow it.

How are courts ruling on getting kids vaccinated? if they usually lean towards vaccination when there is no rational reason against it, can't I just get him vaccinated with confidence that it would rule that way if it goes before a judge months away anyway (assuming I dont die of covid before then)?

Are you sure that your court order for the joint medical decision making doesn't include a "tie breaker". In other words, if you can't agree then parent "x" has final say. If not, then if you and she can't agree on it, you will need to go to the court for permission. Nobody here knows how the court will rule.

I can tell you what you shouldn't do: you shouldn't violate the court order regarding joint medical decision making.

Well I was thinking why bother with court if the courts are going to rule that way anyway, considering even President Biden is applying pressure for vaccines

Because if you go to court and the court agrees with you, you're protected. If you violate the court order regarding medical decisions, you can be charged with contempt.

Anti-vaxxers are stupid. The unvaccinated are getting sick and dying in droves. Preventing one's kid from being vaccinated is child abuse. (My opinion.).

The government and the courts favor Covid vaccinations.

You are free to do what you feel is right.

You will, of course, unleash a sh-tstorm when your kid tells Mommy about his shot.

Well our kid is healthy enough to survive but I might not be. The problem is, the schools are about to lift the mask mandate, which will increase my risk greatly, and I'm afraid we have years before the pandemic goes away.

That said, I'd prefer the consequences of being charged with contempt over the chance of spending the last weeks of my life gasping for breathe until I die in misery.

What's the worst that a judge would do to me by holding me in contempt over this issue? Considering the circumstances and her completely irrational antivax mentality? (I mean she's one of those thinking the vaccines upload your biometrics to the nearest 5g tower)

I agree that anyone who can be vaccinated should be vaccinated, however, the OP is talking about violating a court order. That's a no-no and could actually hurt his custody position.

I'm not going to get into the vax v. no-vax debate, but if this is the ONLY reason you want your kid to get vaccinated, then you have no issue. Your child being vaccinated will have little to no impact on the possibility that you might catch COVID from him. Vaccinated folks can still carry and transmit the virus.

I doubt anyone here has any insight about how Tennessee courts are ruling.

Well...whether you CAN get him vaccinated is something no one here can answer. I suspect most drug stores will administer the vaccine based on only one parent's consent, but I don't know that for sure. Can you get your kid to keep a secret from the other parent during the time between the first two shots (assuming the kid doesn't get the single-shot vax)? Once it's done, there's no going back.

Unless there is a court order that expressly says don't do it, contempt is not a risk.

While I am in no way, shape, or form advocating going contrary to the court orders governing your divorce/custody issues... it's not as though the vaccine can be "taken back"...

That sounds exactly like you are advocating going contrary to the court orders.

@redman24 Is your ex against ALL vaccines or just the COVID vaccine? IF just COVID, what is her objection to it?

I do want to point out that there have hundreds (thousands?) of perfectly healthy young children that have died of COVID/DELTA...many others that survived have suffered horrendous and long lasting health issues.

Well our kid is healthy enough to survive but I might not be
