What is the name of your state? Florida
The Playhouse disney channel has been advertising a new program-Magical Beginnings (August-September). Several popular children's groups would be performing live at MGM Studios (The Wiggles, The Doodlebops, etc.). Concert tickets were free with park admission. My two young children LOVE the Doodebops so I was determined. The only problem was that every concert (other than one) was scheduled during the week. Sunday, August 20th was the only weekend concert. We booked a hotel on Disney property (back in June) and for the two months leading up to the Doodlebops show, we watched them on tv and got so excited! We even brought our babysitter (just incase I would have to wait at the theatre gates for good seats-she could help my husband with the kids). Keep in mind, we had actually been at Disney 2 weeks prior (and again stayed on Disney property so there is record) to enjoy "Disney". This trip in reference had one agenda-taking the kids to see the Doodlebops.
We arrived at MGM Studios on Saturday (the day before the concert) to see another new Playhouse Disney kid's show, Mickey's Magic show. Both my husband and I asked the girls working that ticket station/show, "what will be the proper procedure for tomorrow's Doodlebops show"? I personally asked 5 times and got the same answer each time from several employees (I have a college degree and I am able to process information properly). My husband-same thing. If they told me to be at the MGM gates at 5:00am, I would have been there (that's why we brought our babysitter-just incase). I would do that for my kids (actually did it for The Wiggles the year before in another city). They told me not to bother because it would do no good-tickets aren't being distributed like that. We were told to make sure that we arrive at the ABC Theatre one hour before the show in question (there were 4 shows running that day). We were warned that the tickets will be on a first come first serve basis (seating is gen admin) and that the afternoon shows will be where the crowds are. Fair enough.
The next day we arrived at MGM at around 9:30 am (gates opened at 9:00). My babysitter and husband took the kids, I had my magazines, we had our Nextels, and I went to sit on line. As I arrived the man told me they were sold out. I said (with a smile), "no I am actually here to wait on line for the 1:15pm show, not the 11:15am". He tells me that all of the shows are sold out for the day. They had people waiting since 6:30am and they released all of the tickets for the entire day when the park opened (on a first come first serve basis). How could they do that?
I rushed right over to guest relations where I was greeted by an angry mob of people who had encountered the same or similar problem. Managers were apologizing for the mix up and offering anything they could to quiet people up (I was offered a $200 voucher to Epcots Wine and Food festival-no thank you)! They tried to get us to settle for the next days shows but it was a Monday and everyone had to go back to school and work (Florida school starts August 7th)-not a chance. I demanded a refund of the money I spent on this trip. There were no signs at the gate posted saying "show sold out" (I am sure there was later that day). They let eveyone spend $60/head to enter the park and then told them "sorry". There were so many angry people/so many sad and disappointed kids. They kept asking "what can we do to salvage your day-name it? Anything except the Doodlebops, there's just no room in the theatre". Both of my kids were hysterical crying. We had spent so much time getting excited as a family. How can Disney do this? False advertising? They basically sold tickets to a concert and then apologized for not allowing you in the concert hall (fraud)? Are we not entitled to our (1) resort fee back? (2) park tickets refunded? I have filed a formal complaint (7 days ago) and have heard nothing. Any ideas?
