Just a little note...

To provide proof of your residency can you provide proof of utility service terminated at the old residence and established at your new residence, change of address filed with postal service, a form of identity with your new address and date close to when you established residency. Of course that won't matter if you are legally responsible for the rent anyway.

Did the collection agency indicate what would end action short of you paying the rent they say you owe?

Re:

thanks for the tip on the utility bills, i will see what i can dig up. The credit agency initially did ask if i had anything in terms of mover's papers or a new lease. THe thing is that the new apartment was just 5 blocks away so my roommate and I did not use movers.
