I live in Michigan. I wanted some information regarding whether or not you may file a defamation suit against a landlord that gives you an inaccurate reference that damages your reputation. My landlord recently wrote on a reference that I threatened her. Because of this I was removed from a subsidized housing waitlist. This is not true, I never threatened her and I was told that if she didn't file a police report that I could seek damages. Is this true? What steps can I take?
