Does educational convention qualify for deduction?

My child was diagnosed with a chronic illness and we attended a convention this year, hosted by a non-profit organization, to learn more about the illness,treatments,etc. The convention was held at a resort in Orlando, FL. Is the fee that I paid to attend the convetion deductible, or any of the cost of my stay (boarding, meals?) If so, under what category? Medical, Miscellaneous?
