Hey I'm trying to prove in state residency in Florida for college at miami dade college. I've lived here my whole life but for the past 2 years I've been living with my mom since it's easier on everybody with the bills and stuff. As such I don't have any proof off bills that they require since they are under my name.

I have a state ID/ license covered. My car registration only goes back 8 months so i can't use that yet. The only other thing I do have is a court paper stating my probation stamped by the county dating back over a year which I just completed a few months ago.

I figure the probation paper is per their definition a
  • Official Federal, State or court documents evidencing legal ties to Florida
So I don't understand how she didn't accept it? It definitely proves in state residency (i mean forget state I couldn't even leave the county) am I missing something or was the lady who didn't accept it wrong?

The only thing it proves is that you were on probation and not supposed to leave the county.

Where does Mom live? I think it is a little strange what you quoted says 'ties', not 'residency'.

You could try to get someone else at the school if it is acceptable like the supervisor of the person you spoke to.

Here is a link to the law. http://www.leg.state.fl.us/Statutes/index.cfm?App_mode=Display_Statute&URL=1000-1099/1009/Sections/1009.21.html
Dig in there and see if you should be a considered a resident.

I had mine typed out but was trying to find a phone number before posting ;)

Hey thanks for the responses. We live close to the school. Either way it proves that I've been living with my mom as that was the address on the court document. I'm going to dig thru those links to see if something applys

No, it means that you gave that address to the court.

Why not transfer one of the utilities in to your name? EDIT: Ignore that - the utility bill isn't on the list. Alternatively, you could pay for a semester and then, after 4 months are up, apply for an adjustment in your status.

What did you do for a car prior to 8 months ago? If you had another car, then maybe you can you use that registration combined with your current registration to show continuous residency.

My license was suspended before so I used uber alot. Utility bill was on the list but it has to be with proof of 12 consecutive payments.. if I get the bill transferred under my name will it look like it's been mine for the past year?

Do the Declaration of Domicile.

They told me the declaration of domicile also had to date back a year. My car registration is the closest I have which goes back 8 months but if I have to wait for that to be a year I'll miss out on fall semester..

Actually, the declaration of domicile doesn't have to go back a year. Make a complaint using the information I provided above.

Hey I just got back from the school again abs they said the declaration of domicile also has to go back a year.. I wad going to go to court abs get it done in the morning but I think I'm out of options now and I'm going to have to wait until spring term so I can use my car registration
